I am an atypical extroverted engineer with a love for languages, literature and syntactic sugar. I have several years experiencing leveraging Java Frameworks including Spring Boot, but have also developed proficiency in the front end using the templating power of AngularJS and built persistence layers using the NoSQL flexibility of MongoDB.
Leading the Digital Publishing Team through a number of different technology evaluations, adoptions and changes. Helped drive product management towards a more stratified view of capabilities and platforms.
Developer on REI's Digital Publishing team. Developed an event-sourcing framework based on existing middleware stack and integrated with Spring Boot.
Developed several internal microservices for consumption and propagation of standardized metadata using Spring Boot, SPARQL and proxied REST Endpoints
Integral member of the Costco Travel Agile team that released the Cruise Multi Cabin workflow. I drove the team to deliver the project 2 releases ahead of schedule. Maintained and refactored existing Cruise Search and Cruise Booking functionality in public and internal applications code base using JavaScript, JSP, Java, SQL Server and a custom activity framework based on Java Servlet specifications. Integrated address results from the Google Geocode API into an existing search-as-you-type widget used for the Car Rental workflow on the Costco Travel site. New functionality allowed users to search for Car Rental Agencies in proximity to a specific address rather than a general locality like a city or airport. For this widget I authored clear, concise documentation for Travel Agents that answered many of their FAQs. This document helped reduce the number of calls to our help desk and increased efficiency in the Car Rental department.
Developed and supported Java software solutions that distribute accurate student information to ESL teachers in the Tacoma School District using Apache POI, Java Mail, and Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets. Maintained and updated computer systems for the Director of International Education and her support staff. Provided department director with education pamphlets for distribution using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. Conducted informal training with coworkers on software such as Microsoft Office, eSchoolPlus, and routine machine maintenance.
Started out bussing tables in high school. Worked my way up through the ranks to the positions of General Manager and Bar Manager. While in managerial roles, I was responsible for hiring, training and terminating employees. Developed strategies for improving business in a difficult economy.
GPA: 3.85
In addition to my love of my Software Development and Design, I use my free time to go on adventures around Tacoma with my wife and two daughters. When time allows, we head down to the water and go exploring. I have a sick fascination with yard work and like to play in the dirt. Cooking is another passion I acquired during a decade of restaurant work. I love woodworking and old cars. When I'm not doing any of these other things you can find me reading comic books or crinkled paperbacks sipping a cup of coffee.
